About the instructor

I'm Nic.

Independent PADI Diving Instructor in Hong Kong, focused on beginners.

I believe diving isn't a technical competition — it's about whether someone can breathe easily underwater and slowly understand their own relationship with the sea. My job is to walk every beginner safely through their first step.

My Story

I started diving in 2018. That year I visited Sipadan in Malaysia, and the first time I put on a mask and sank below the surface, schools of tropical fish drifted past me and a sea turtle glided slowly across my view. In that moment I was completely stunned — the underwater world was another universe entirely: quiet, beautiful, unlike anything above. I've never been able to leave the ocean since.

Over the years I've dived across Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia, logging over 500 dives. The more I dived, the more I wanted to do one thing — open this door for more people.

71% of our planet is ocean, home to countless beautiful creatures: soft corals, sea turtles, schools of fish, color-changing octopuses. Yet most Hong Kongers never get to see any of it with their own eyes. I became an instructor because I want more people to witness just how beautiful this sea really is.

And once you've truly seen the underwater world, you start to care about it. This is what I most want to pass on to every student: every sea turtle, every patch of coral we see underwater is connected to how we live on land. Using one less plastic bag, sorting your waste properly, not littering — these small everyday actions are exactly how we protect the beauty we see when we dive. To me, teaching diving isn't just about skills — it's about helping more people fall in love with the ocean, and then protecting it together.

My Teaching Philosophy

Four things I hold onto.

No "slow" students

Speed of learning has nothing to do with whether diving is for you. I've seen people clear their mask first try, and others take 30 minutes to relax — they're all Advanced divers now. I adapt to your pace, not the other way around.

Safety isn't a feature

Every dive shop says "we're safe." I'd rather show you exactly how: 1:4 instructor ratio, every skill demonstrated before you try, reschedule without hesitation if weather is bad. Safety isn't marketing — it's every small decision.

Small groups so I see you

The biggest problem with large classes is the instructor can't see each person's hesitation. I keep classes small (max 4), sometimes one-on-one. What beginners need most isn't technique — it's someone next to them saying "you've got this."

Certification is just the start

I've seen too many students get their OW card and never dive again. So I run a Fun Dive group, organize overseas trips, and answer post-cert questions on WhatsApp. I want your PADI card in active use, not stored in a drawer.
